Welcome to the London Bel Canto Festival Newsletter!

Dear Friends,

Our April concert at the National Liberal Club will be featuring artists from the National Opera Studio. Pianist Emily Hooker has been accompanying a few of our concerts since she first joined LBCF as a collaborative pianist. Her engagements as an accompanist include the Leeds Lieder Festival and the Veneto Opera Summer School in Venice amongst others. Shengzhi Ren (tenor) trained at Royal Academy Opera and Shanghai Conservatory of Music and specialises in 19th century Italian repertoire.

We are also welcoming two new artists who presently are with the NOS: Korean counter-tenor JungKwon Jang, who has previously had some notable operatic engagements in Germany and Austria will contribute a range of wonderful Handel arias amongst other repertoire, and soprano Frances Du Plessis who will present a wide repertoire from Mozart to Bizet reflecting her varied international engagements.

The concert is on Wednesday, 24 April, 7.30 pm at the National Liberal Club, 1 Whitehall Place, London SW1A 2HE, Tickets are available at https://londonbelcantofestival.co.uk/book-tickets

LAUNCH OF LBCF FRIENDS SCHEME

We are grateful to our subscribers and regular visitors at the Nation Liberal Club, but we also heavily depend on the public’s support to do our work, especially in the field of giving a platform to young artists. We would therefore delighted if you would consider purchasing a LBCF Friends Scheme Membership on https://londonbelcantofestival.co.uk/patrons-members-and-friends.

There is a varied range of membership categories for every budget and as an appreciation for your support you will be able to enjoy exclusive offers like early box office access, a mention in our festival programme or free tickets to some of our events.

YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAMME 2019

The applications for our Young Artist Programme are still open and we welcome students of every voice type. Last year’s programme featured daily private lessons and coachings from the best performers and mentors available in the field. We are proud to welcome again the greatest living bel canto tenor Bruce Ford as a member of our faculty this year, alongside tutors like soprano Nelly Miricioiu, who is a mentor at the ROH Jette Parker Young Artists programme, and Harriet Lawson, who has worked as a vocal coach and repetitor for the best international opera houses. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in public masterclasses and/or perform at our concert series. Moreover, a concert production of Bellini’s rarely performed Beatrice di Tenda will give academy participants the chance to be part of an opera cast.

Lastly, we would like to wish everyone a happy bank holiday weekend and we would be delighted to welcome you to one of our future concert dates at the NLC (24 April, 17 June, 12 July)

All best wishes from the London Bel Canto Festival team!
